i want to get off the treadmill

12x36” Acrylic on Canvas, 2024

raw feelings! collection

This piece is about the hedonic treadmill, the unsatiable desire to achieve the next goal. As humans, when one goal is achieved, we immediately move onto the next goal. An important part of learning to enjoy life is to recognize this and try to put an end to the cycle, enjoying the journey instead of the destination. This piece is a reminder to do that.

I chose a long, skinny canvas to resemble the shape of a treadmill path, and used a variety of bright colors to evoke dopamine hits from pursuring and achieving goals. These happy moments are represented as a part of the treadmill path, rather than an endpoint.
